The Advising Center is a dynamic resource that contributes to the success of Benedictine students by providing guidance, resources, and support on their academic pursuits. We strive to foster an interactive process between the advisor and student that is supported by technology. The goal is to promote each student’s academic, career, and personal development. Out office is here to provide quality advising services as well as offer resources to new freshman, new transfer and current students.
After receiving my Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Psychology from St. Norbert College, I completed my Master’s and Ph.D. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland. I have been in higher education for over twenty years as a criminal justice professor. During my time as a professor, I developed a passion for advising students and decided to switch to full time advising when I started at Benedictine in August 2019. I enjoy helping match students with the right course and career plan as well as mentoring them through college life.

While teaching college writing and literature courses for over seven years, I learned that my passion is working with and supporting undergraduate students no matter their pursuits. I enjoy supporting students through all of the challenges and successes of their college careers. I earned my Bachelors in English from Saint Xavier University before obtaining my Masters in Literature from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Prior to joining the Advising Center, I was the Assistant Registrar for Course Management here at Benedictine, and I am currently working toward my doctoral degree in English Literature at SUNY Albany in New York.

During my undergraduate education at Northwestern University, I changed my major several times before earning my BA in English. After many years in the workforce, I returned to Northwestern to earn my Master’s Degree in English. Post-graduation, I taught writing and literature at the college level for six years. During my time in the classroom, I learned so much from my students and enjoyed cheering their success and assisting during difficult times. Through this experience, I recognized that my passion truly was helping students navigate their college journey. After deciding to pivot out of the classroom, I joined the Advising team at Benedictine University in order to focus on supporting students full time.

My college studies began at Waubonsee Community College. During my time there, an introductory psychology class grabbed my interest. I soon transferred to Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago, Illinois, to major in psychology. Towards the end of my undergraduate studies, I learned about mental health counseling as a career choice and felt it was a good fit given my strengths in listening skills and interest in serving others. So, I entered a graduate Master’s program to pursue my interest in mental health counseling and eventually earned a Master’s degree from Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois, in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I practiced mental health counseling for 6 years, serving children, adolescents, and adults, before I shifted my focus to become a full-time academic advisor at Benedictine University, where I am excited to serve young adults on their academic journeys.

As a French major at Colgate University, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do after graduation. After a brief stint in marketing, I was eager to return to the college environment. I earned my Master’s degree in Higher Education from the University of Michigan and spent two years in residence life before transitioning to academic advising where I’ve been for the past thirteen years. I enjoy working with students to create plans to achieve their goals and have successful academic careers.
