Benedictine University welcomed former NFL player and current SEC Network analyst Chris Doering to campus for the latest installment in the University’s Journeys in Leadership (JIL) series on Wednesday, Nov. 6 in Goodwin Hall’s Sorensen Hall of Leaders room.
Established in 2020, JIL is a nonpartisan, non-political speaker series supported by the Becker Endowment fund. The series highlights the successes and challenges of an eclectic mix of local, state, national, and international leaders from across a range of professional and academic areas.
Doering discussed his experiences as a championship level college football player, his many years in the NFL, and his professional endeavors in sports broadcasting and as a small business entrepreneur.
Chris Doering is a college football analyst for SEC Network, appearing on SEC Now and SEC Football Final. He has worked at ESPN since August 2015 He also does a weekly broadcast on SEC This Morning, Mon-Fri from 7-10 a.m. ET on SEC Network and Sirius XM.
Doering began his football career with the University of Florida as a walk-on, culminating in a single-season SEC record with 17 touchdowns, and finishing his career with a record 31 touchdowns. A second-team All-American and first-team All-SEC choice, he helped lead the team to SEC Championships in 1993, 1994, and 1995.
Chris began a 10-year NFL career in 1996, drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars, and played for the Washington Commanders, Denver Broncos, and Pittsburgh Steelers. He finished his NFL career with 42 receptions for 476 yards and 3 touchdowns, with some of his most productive years occurring after recovering from a severe Achilles injury.
Doering holds a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications, with an emphasis in broadcasting. An entrepreneur and small business owner, he founded Chris Doering Mortgage after finishing his NFL career.
