Reflective of our Catholic Benedictine tradition we practice hospitality by welcoming all, informing community committed to the common good, and living lives of meaning and purpose. Through volunteer events, interfaith dialogue, faith formation programs, and leadership opportunities, Campus Ministry celebrates all that makes our community Benedictine.

Guests are encouraged to park in the parking garage on the south end of campus. Once inside Kindlon Hall, they should go to the elevator or stairwell on the northwest side of the building to reach the fourth floor.

Interfaith Prayer Room

Our Interfaith Prayer Room, located in Kindlon Hall 136/137, is a welcoming space for all people to pray, contemplate and meditate. Access to this room is only for current BenU faculty, staff, and students.

Benedict’s Basket

Caring for students’ basic needs is one of the best ways we support our community. Learning that 25-33% of college students are food insecure, in collaboration with our Nutrition department, Campus Ministry opened Benedict’s Basket on our Lisle campus, which is available to all students. Carrie Ankeny

Carrie Ankeny, M.A.

Director of Campus Ministry, Lisle

Carrie has served in Catholic college ministry for over a decade and holds a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Theology and a certificate in Pastoral Ministry from Villanova University. She is a certified Catholic Campus Minister through the Catholic Campus Ministry Association (CCMA). Carrie works to cultivate Campus Ministry as a celebration of our Catholic, Benedictine, and intentionally interfaith identity while fostering a meeting place of faith, justice, and culture in our everyday lives. Carrie organizes all of BenU Campus Ministry’s service and social justice opportunities locally, nationally, and internationally and works with the Movement of Students Achieving Interfaith Collaboration (M.O.S.A.I.C.) on campus.

Chaplain, Mesa Campus

Fr. Alex is a member of the Crosier Fathers and Brothers, and was ordained a priest in 2018. He was born in Manila, Philippines, and raised in North Royalton, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland where he was a member of St. Albert the Great Church in North Royalton. While a parishioner there, he founded a monthly men’s prayer group, was an adult male server at daily Mass and volunteered with RCIA. He has also been active in the Totus Tuus International Eucharistic, Consecration, Scapular and Rosary Novena Crusade, made in response to Pope John Paul II’s appeals. Prior to joining the Crosiers, Fr. Alex worked as a doctor of sleep medicine in the Northeast Ohio. In addition to his duties as Chaplain, Fr. Alex teaches on the Theology faculty, serves as Vocations Director for the Crosiers, and assists locally at St. Gregory’s Parish in Phoenix.

Dr. Peter Huff is Chief Mission Officer, Professor of Theology, and Director of the Sister Judith Ann Heble OSB, Center for Benedictine Values at Benedictine University. He teaches courses in U.S. religious history and world religions. Dr. Huff studied at Mercer University, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Indiana University and received the PhD in historical theology from Saint Louis University. Before coming to Benedictine, he held tenured faculty positions at Saint Anselm College and Centenary College of Louisiana and an endowed chair in Ethics/Religion and Society at Xavier University.

Mary Upchurch

Mary “Marielle” serves as the Liturgical Musician for Benedictine University. She has been engaged in music ministry from the time she was in high school, through music ensembles, choirs, and as a cantor and accompanist.  She was in fact, first inspired to become a music minister while attending a welcome Mass on her sister’s college campus. Through the gift of music, Marielle seeks to strengthen others relationship with God. Serving the Lord by providing the community with prayerful, moving music is at the heart of her ministry.
