Benedictine University had a busy week. Benedict and Scholastica Week was a resounding success. The week featured numerous events throughout campus that highlighted the university’s rich history. One major highlight was the installation of the university’s 13th president, Dr. Joseph Foy on Friday, March 1. The week concluded with a community service initiative: a Feed the Need volunteer event.
Over 3,000 volunteers from Feed My Starving Children, Benedictine University, and the community came together on March 2nd and 3rd to pack meals at the University’s Rice Center.
Matt Hebel, MobilePack Chair, said that “without the Rice Arena, and Benedictine University saying YES to this amazing FMSC MobilePack event, we are not certain that the Feed the Need! annual tradition would have continued this year. I hope you all agree that the energy this weekend was spirit-filled and full-tilt! The Rice Center lived up to its name providing rice meals – and it was awesome to see so many servants out there saving lives and providing hope to those in great need! We are so very grateful.” He shared the following meal details from the event:
We packed a total of 800,928 meals!
103 Pallets x 36 boxes/pallet = 3,708 boxes.
3,708 boxes x 216 meals/box = 108,928 meals!
Each bag contains six meals.
Ayesha Amin Moosani, President of Benedictine’s Student Senate, stated: “We are thrilled that our contribution helped ensure the success of this year’s event and that we played a role in continuing this important tradition. Seeing the Rice Arena filled with dedicated volunteers, all working towards the common goal of making a difference, was an inspiring sight. The statistics shared are truly impressive and reflect the collective efforts of everyone involved. It’s heartwarming to know that our collaboration resulted in such a significant impact, providing meals and hope to those in need. We are sincerely grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Feed the Need! and FMSC.”
