The Mission of SAND

The mission of Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics (SAND) is to apply our knowledge and communication skills in order to educate the entire Benedictine University community (including ourselves) about the relationship of nutrition to health and well being. This will be accomplished by the combined efforts of all the club members, through philanthropic events, seminars, and fun activities.

Activities

The Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics (SAND) has sponsored, hosted, or assisted in planning many activities over the years. Some of these activities were:

  • Bake Sales
  • Guest Speakers
  • Community Nutrition and Health Fair
  • Tours of Supermarkets and Food Manufacturing Companies
  • Bean Bag Tournament
  • Thanksgiving Day Food Drive
  • Volunteering at PADS Shelter, Soup Kitchens, and Food Banks
  • Cookbook Fundraiser
  • Assisting at Chicago Marathon
  • Walk-A-Thon
  • Ethnic Food Restaurant Outing
  • Annual Nutrition Department Banquet

Educational Activities

The Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics (SAND) often is solicited for input when the Nutrition Department coordinate educational activities for professional development. Some examples of these activities include:

  • Guest Speakers and classes (e.g., cooking class, wellness, career)
  • Annual presentation series about planning for the future (e.g., what is a dietetic internship, how-to complete the forms, graduate school)
  • Attend the Annual Food and Nutrition Conference and Exposition of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (when held in Chicago)
  • Attend Illinois Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ Spring Assembly (March)
