Nutrition and Public Health Programs Converge for Global Impact

Programs within the Department of Nutrition and Public Health equip students with evidence-based knowledge and real-world experience to improve individual and community health. Hands-on learning will prepare you for exciting careers in clinical, community, or policy settings.

Our Nutrition program is focused on guiding individuals and groups -in clinical and community settings- towards making informed food and lifestyle choices for optimal wellbeing. Our generalist MPH program equips students with the skills to assess, prevent, and control critical public health issues, with further specialization available through Certificates.

Our outstanding faculty provide diverse learning opportunities, with expertise in areas of health promotion including but not limited to:

  • Emergency management: Creating a framework within communities to reduce vulnerability to threats and cope with disasters.
  • Epidemiology: Investigating the patterns and causes of disease outbreaks.
  • Dietetics: Using advanced nutritional science to help prevent and treat disease in various settings.
  • Health education and promotion: Planning, implementing and evaluating programs to improve the health of communities.

Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics

The curricula for our Benedictine University Didactic Program in Nutrition and Dietetics (DPD) and Dietetic Internship program have been granted accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, 120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2190, Chicago, Illinois 60606-6995, (800) 877-1600 ext. 5400. Our most recent accreditation visit was in 2017, and the program was awarded accreditation through June 30, 2025.

Accreditation Council on Education for Public Health

The M.P.H. Program is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). CEPH accreditation is nationally recognized as the quality standard of education and training in public health, awarded only to programs that meet lengthy, rigorous criteria.
