Hazing Violations

An act of hazing committed by any student or group is prohibited by the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act (Clery Act), the State of Illinois (Section 720 ILCS 120.0.01) and Benedictine University Hazing Policy. The Clery Act requires institutions of higher education to disclose incidents of hazing in which the alleged were found responsible for violating the policy. Benedictine University will publish a hazing transparency report that summarizes findings concerning any student organization found to be in violation of the student code of conduct related to hazing. This report will be maintained for five (5) years from the publication of each update. The report will include the following:

  1. The name of the student organization (i.e., athletic team, student club, etc.);
  2. General description of the violation, including whether it involved the abuse or illegal use of alcohol or drugs;
  3. The finding(s) (the determination of responsibility);
  4. Any sanctions placed on the organization;
  5. Date of the incident;
  6. Date the investigation initiated;
  7. Date the investigation ended; and
  8. Date the student organization was sent the notice of hazing violation.
