Emeritus – Computer Science

Father Richard Shonka, long-time teacher of mathematics. Another great interest of his was the Abbey’s work in China, where he spent eighteen months or so as a missionary in 1936-1938. Health problems forced him to return to the States, but he continued his involvement with our Benedictine Chinese Mission for decades longer. Much of the clerical work for the Mission was done by the Missionary Oblates of St. Scholastica, a group of oblates who lived along Maple Avenue, west of the orphanage/academy. Their superior was Mother Marie Shonka, Father Richard’s younger sister.
