Emeritus – Nursing and Health
2012 – Lisle resident Ethel Ragland, Ed.D., professor of Nursing and Health and a Benedictine University faculty member for 30 years, was named the recipient of the Faculty Award for Internal Service.
Ragland served as chair of the Department of Nursing and Health for 13 of the last 26 years and resurrected the University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program from near extinction. She developed partnerships with several community colleges to expand the program and worked tirelessly to turn the program into the thriving, expanding program it is today.
“Dr. Ragland exemplifies the qualities of a true Benedictine,” said Margaret Delaney, M.S., RN, instructor in the Department of Nursing and Health. “She encourages those around her to promote the common good and work together in harmony, advocates for the underrepresented minority nursing student, and consistently exhibits tremendous hospitality to others.”
