Father Cyprian Tomecko O.S.B. received his doctorate from the University of Illinois in 1926 for studying chemistry. Upon returning to St. Procopius College (SPC), he founded a rigorous chemistry program that demanded student research; that program retains approval by the American Chemical Society to this day.
Fr. Cyprian also assisted with the design and construction of the General Chemistry Lab in 1939.
Father Cyprian Tomecko, OSB. was chairman of the chemistry department at St. Procopius until his death on June 14, 1940.
