Explore the intricacies of political science, delving into the theories and practices of government, both at the local and global levels. Our State and Local Government course will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the political systems that shape our communities, while Principles of Macroeconomics will equip you with the knowledge to analyze economic trends and policies.
Program options:
If you want to be a licensed social studies-history teacher in grades 9-12, you should choose the History/Social Science major and an Education minor. You will also need to register with the Benedictine University Education Program as a teaching licensure candidate.
If you want to major in History but do not intend to be a teacher, you should choose the History major.
If you want to major in Social Science and explore track options in Political Science, Economics, Psychology, History, Criminology, and Sociology, but do not intend to be a teacher, you should choose the Social Science major.
A Variety of Careers in a Wide Range of Fields
A history/social science major can lead to a variety of careers in a wide range of fields. Some examples include teaching, policy analysis, lobbying, foreign service, market research, public relations, human resources, program coordination, grant writing, and community organizing. History/social science majors are well-prepared for success in a variety of fields due to their strong analytical skills, communication skills, and understanding of the human condition.
History/social science majors can pursue careers in teaching and professorship. Teaching opportunities include secondary level (grades 9-12), college level, private schools, and alternative education settings. Professorship requires graduate studies and involves conducting research and publishing scholarly works.
