Benedictine University (BenU) Professor Wilson Chen, PhD, and co-author Maggie Morris Davis, PhD, have been awarded the 2025 David D. Anderson Award for Outstanding Essay in Midwestern Literary Studies by the Society for the Study of Midwestern Literature (SSML).

Their essay, “Recovering the Worker in Meridel Le Sueur’s Worker Writers (1939/1982),” was recognized as the top scholarly essay in the field this year. The award includes a $1,000 prize and an invitation for Dr. Chen and Dr. Morris Davis to deliver a plenary talk at the Society’s annual conference at the Kellogg Center of Michigan State University.

“It’s such an honor to be recognized by this community of scholars that I have so much respect for,” said Dr. Chen. “I also think it’s incredibly important to study literature produced here in the U.S. Midwest, and I’m thrilled to help shine a light on the work of Minnesota writer Meridel Le Sueur.”

Congratulations to Dr. Chen on this outstanding achievement!
