What is the L.E.A.D.S. Program?

L.E.A.D.S. is a four-year program that offers a transformative experience for undergraduates who demonstrate a desire to grow as leaders. The Benedictine hallmarks serve as the foundation of the program, while leadership principles guide the program’s content. Our purpose is to develop individuals who are emotionally intelligent, professionally prepared, and empowered to lead self and others authentically to be a transformational servant leader to the campus, community, and world.

  • PERSONAL:
    • The L.E.A.D.S. scholarship program empowers individuals to unlock their full potential by providing an interactive and immersive learning experience.
    • Through character development, engagement-building, and hands-on learning, participants gain confidence and skills that will benefit them throughout their careers.
  • PHILANTHROPIC:
    • By emphasizing philanthropy and service to the world, L.E.A.D.S. instills a mindset of generosity and purpose
  • PROFESSIONAL:
    • The program’s intentional investment in professional development equips participants with the necessary skills and competencies to succeed in life and career.

L.E.A.D.S. is based on the principles of Benevolent Leadership, an emerging model of leadership informed by insight related to ethics/morality, spirituality, vitality/positivity, and community, all qualities of leadership contributing to the common good.

Students who are accepted in to the L.E.A.D.S. program will:

  • Develop a skillset so when they leave this academic institution, they will enter the world of work as a leader, in their own right;
  • Demonstrate a strong sense of character, embodying courage, confidence, and resolve;
  • Interwoven with grace and generosity for self, others, and the community;
  • Become grounded solidly in their core values, positively impacting this world

Through a variety of programming and events, L.E.A.D.S. participants will gain a clearer understanding of their own leadership style and learn how to use those strengths to grow as authentic leaders. L.E.A.D.S. will expose you to people across the University and across the country who will mentor, monitor and inspire you to reach your potential.

Whether your professional goals put you in an operating room, classroom or boardroom, L.E.A.D.S. is designed to help you prepare for life after college and lead with integrity no matter the setting or situation.

Students that wish to apply to the L.E.A.D.S. Program

Application Process

  • Submit a L.E.A.D.S. applications.
  • Students interested in the L.E.A.D.S. program must complete application, essay questions, and submit two letters of recommendation
  • After application is received, students will receive a request for online interview with L.E.A.D.S. director and advisory team members.
  • Final selection of L.E.A.D.S. candidates is based on essay question, letters of recommendation, interview, and commitment of 20-30 hours of engagement during the full academic year.

LEADing the Way

  • The L.E.A.D.S. program is an iterative character and leadership development program focusing on developing self-leadership, leadership of others, and becoming a strong, impactful global citizen.
  • Each year the L.E.A.D.S. development program will focus on a different dimension of Benevolent Leadership inspiring each student to lead with their BEST and infuses the Benedictine Hallmarks into the curriculum:
  • Year One: Awareness of Self, Career, and Personal Assessments
  • Year Two: Awareness of Others and Interviewing Skills
  • Year Three: Leadership – Your BEST Leadership and Professional Writing Resumes and Cover Letters
  • Year Four: Philanthropic Development, Global Leadership, Service Trip, Networking and Mentoring
  • Every year, students participate in Engagement Circles and opportunities.
