Students Organize and Moderate Two Interreligious Dialogues

Students (including several from the Scholars Program) recently organized and moderated two interreligious dialogues on the topic of “Faith, Modesty, and Purity Culture in the U.S.”

The first dialogue, Wednesday November 8, was all women, and featured guest scholars Dr. Feryal Salem (Muslim), Rabbi Jessica Wainer (Jewish), and Dr. Rita George Tvrtkovic (Christian), who offered perspectives from scripture and tradition as well as diverse interpretations of modesty, virtue, and feminism both between and within their respective religions.

The second dialogue, Monday November 13, was entirely student-led, and included both male and female voices. The student leaders were Jenna Demas, Haya Khalaf, Maheen Mohammed, Syeda Adeena Ahmed, John Creviston, and Syed Farhan. With this experience under their belts, hopefully these student leaders will soon organize another interreligious dialogue on a pressing issue of their choosing.
