Student Opportunities at the Jurica-Suchy Nature Museum

Student Employment (Docents or Student Researchers)

The Jurica-Suchy Nature Museum provides a unique and fulfilling work environment for Benedictine University students. The museum hires students from any major, and no prior museum experience is necessary.

Students may apply to be trained as docents or as student researchers. Docents maintain the public hours of the museum and make sure all guests are warmly welcomed when they visit. Docents must be willing to work with children of all ages and help with tours of the museum as needed. Student researchers assist with specimen inventory and cataloging, creation and maintenance of the museum’s Discovery Boxes, exhibit formation, and other research projects.

Students interested in working with the museum:
Check the student employment page for details about job postings.
Must be a current student of Benedictine University.
Federal Work Study funding is available.

Pay rate: Minimum wage

Internship offerings are suspended at this time. We look forward to offering summer internships again once the museum reopens to the public.

Internships in Museum Studies

Graduate and undergraduate internships are now available at the Jurica-Suchy Nature Museum. All internships are tailored to coursework requirements and focus on skill building.

Internship topics can include museum education and outreach, exhibit design, museum management, collections care and inventory, event organization, or other topics of study related to a student’s previous coursework.

Students must be currently enrolled in a college or university, and must pursue credit through their institution. Students must enter into an internship contract and commit to a set schedule. Most internships last between 14 and 16 weeks. Shorter internship, volunteer, or practicum experiences may also be available. All internships are unpaid.

Applications must be submitted a minimum of 8 weeks prior to intended internship start date. Interns must complete paperwork and undergo a background check before beginning their internship.
