English and Writing Minor

Intended to complement any major, the minor in English and Writing pairs intensive study of literary works with attention to developing and refining students’ writing skills.

Students will learn how to design and complete written projects while discovering how to write in various genres and rhetorical situations for different kinds of audiences.

Students in the English and Writing program have the opportunities to

Construct clear, effective critical arguments that are supported by appropriate textual evidence.
Perform effective, sustained close readings of poetry, drama, fiction, and other genres.
Use and synthesize concepts, terms, and methodologies from critical and theoretical writing to analyze literary works.
Propose, design, and complete written projects appropriate to different rhetorical situations.
