The BenU Music groups are busy this time of the year! Various groups performed for events hosted on campus and our students performed their end of the year solo performances.
The MSIP (Masters of Science in Integrative Physiology) hosted its 5-year anniversary dinner on April 15. In addition to some speeches by program organizers, past and present, and a magic show, the Jazz Eagles Combo performed for about 40 minutes while attendees mingled and enjoyed appetizers. Performers included Patrick Infusino (director and bass player), Giovanni Carbonara (flute), Dimitri Karlos (drums), and Mitchell Garcia (clarinet).
The Concert Band, Eagles Jazz Combo, and Concert Band performed for the first time in Goodwin 411 on Saturday, April 29. Groups performed works by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Stevie Wonder, Clifton Taylor, Freddie Hubbard, Reginal Wright, Henry Mancini, Victor C. Johnson, C.A. Pinto Fonseca, Antonio Vivaldi, Mozart, and others. The groups performed to a crowd of 70 attendees, who enjoyed light refreshments while taking in the music from these three music program ensembles, with the beautiful backdrop of campus visible from the fourth floor of Goodwin Hall on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
Each year, music students present junior and senior recitals as part of their degree requirements for the music major and music minor. This year, three students performed recitals: Zaira Salgado (voice), Lilas Alkhawandi (piano), and Tiffany Wagner (violin). Their performances in Scholl Recital Hall featured selections of works from their studies at Benedictine, including a wide variety of music literature from classical pieces to contemporary musicals.
