"Listen, my child, to your master's precepts, and incline the ear of your heart..." --Prologue, The Rule of St. Benedict
Catholicism and the Benedictine Tradition have a 2,000 year history of teaching by passing down the tradition. The TANAK, or Hebrew Scriptures which we Christians called the "Old Testament" was the writing down of what was the oral tradition of the Israelite peoples that we now call the "Jews."
The Council of Hippo, 393 A.D., issued the first Canon of Scriptures which we call the "New Testament". The Christians then took the Scriptures off of large scrolls and cut them into pieces and bound them on one end. We call this "the Book" or "The Bible." This was done to make the Scriptures portable so that we could facilitate learning.
Teaching and learning are at the heart of who we are as Catholics and Benedictines. In the months to come, learn from this site to promote your own spiritual well being and seek to live the goal of all Benedictines everywhere, the life lived well.
Catholic Faith. Welcoming Spirit.
