Mission Statement

The Benedictine University at Springfield Resource Center's mission is to advance academic excellence and professional development by leading progressive initiatives aimed at cultivating active campus engagement. Academic and professional engagement goals include the following:

  • Provide teaching-and-learning, tutoring, and professional-development services in a supportive environment.
  • Offer guidance in developing professional goals, targeting lifelong learning desires.
  • Bolster academic engagement and pedagogical enrichment.
  • Enhance the development of departmental and campus pursuits. 


Phil Welsh serves as the Learning Specialist in the Resource Center. He earned a Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction from Loyola University Chicago and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Drake University. Phil also teaches several math courses for Benedictine as an adjunct instructor, including statistics and intermediate algebra. He has been a member of the Benedictine family since the fall of 2012. When he’s not on campus, Phil enjoys coaching basketball, writing music, and traveling up to Wisconsin to see his friends and family.

We are located in the lower level of Becker Library.
