Placement Testing

Why do I have to test?

Every incoming student is required to take the math, reading, and writing placement exams, unless they have completed equivalent college coursework in these subject areas or have the appropriate ACT sub score (Math: 24; English: 21; Reading: 21). The purpose is to place a student into the appropriate courses and to help ensure the student has the skills required to be successful in that particular course and any additional college level courses thereafter.

How do I prepare for the test?

ACT Compass has created a booklet with testing information and sample questions to help prepare for placement testing. Each booklet provides answers to the sample questions along with the content category.

Can I retest?

Students are allowed to retest in each subject one time after the initial placement test. It is recommended students spend ample time studying before retaking the exam to ensure proper placement.
