"This is preeminently the time to speak the truth , the whole truth, frankly and boldly. Nor need we shrink from honestly facing conditions in our country today. This great Nation will endure as it has endured, will revive and will prosper. "

~ Franklin D. Roosevelt, 1933

"There is little doubt the current economic state of affairs is certainly a challenge. We have no way of knowing how long the downturn will last or how much more we will have to adjust as individuals, a community or as a University."

~ Charles Gregory, Executive Vice President, Benedictine University

Benedictine University has undertaken a number of economic initiatives to help students including a tuition freeze and the"Displaced Earner Program." In October, Benedictine University's Board of Trustees voted to freeze tuition at its current level through Spring 2010 for all traditional students already attending Benedictine, and guaranteed that next year’s freshman class will not see a tuition increase through Spring 2011.

More recently, Benedictine instituted the "Displaced Earner Program." The program provides financial assistance – which could include additional grant money, extended payment plans and student employment opportunities – to students affected by a deteriorating financial situation at home. The program also allows University staff to work with families to develop a creative and affordable college financing plan, and provide free career development services to students' parents who have lost their jobs. Benedictine University’s Financial Aid Office also administers a variety of federal, state and institutional programs of student financial assistance including grants and scholarships, loans and part-time campus employment.
