Free Tuition for Fire and Police Professionals and Illinois Veterans serving in Iraq and Afghanistan
Invest your time now — Empower your future

The First Responder Program at Benedictine University was established in 2002 to serve fire and police personnel in Lisle and provide them with a free education. The program was later expanded to include police and fire in Naperville and Downers Grove, and eventually most of DuPage County and portions of adjacent counties.

The program was extended with the understanding that a minimum number of students must be enrolled at a given location to make the program financially feasible (although the program is free to students, faculty do not volunteer their time and essentially faculty salaries and travel allotments constitute the greatest cost of the program).

Effective June 1, 2009, Benedictine University will only launch one new First Responder Program learning team each academic year. Therefore, only one group will start between June 1, 2009-May 31, 2010. The Associate Arts of Business Administration (A.A.B.A.) program has reached maximum capacity and will begin in Lombard on July 20, 2009.

In 2010-2011, the A.A.B.A. program OR the Bachelor of Arts in Management (B.A.M.) program will establish a learning team at a location that serves the greatest number of students and meets the minimum required number of students during this time.

If you wish to be put on a waiting list for a program and site to be determined for the 2010-2011 academic year, please contact Dayna Crabb at dcrabb@ben.edu or (630) 829-6303.

The life of a First Responder is difficult. In addition to strenuous and dangerous work, the hours are long for the salary you earn. To maintain a high level of professionalism throughout your life, you must acquire the same educational opportunities as those you protect.

A liberal arts college education gives you the skills to deal with the life- and property-threatening situations you encounter every day. To thank you for your service and better equip you to make critical decisions with the problems you face, Benedictine University has created the First Responder Program, funded by the University and a federal grant, to give scholarships to first responders. This allows you the opportunity to earn a quality college degree.
