Sr. Marjorie Keenan, R.S.H.M., D.U.P., received her doctorate
at the University of Paris (Sorbonne). She served in educational
administration, as well as her own religious congregation
as Secretary General for a 12-year mandate and as Secretary
General of the World Conference on Religion and Peace, USA.
She was also a member of the Observer Delegation of the Holy
See at the United Nations where she followed disarmament questions.
Named a member of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace
in 1977, she continued in this capacity until 1986 when she
joined the permanent secretariat as a senior staff member
until 2001. She concentrates on issues of peace and disarmament
and on ecology. Her most recent publications are Care for
Creation: Human Activity and the Environment and From Stockholm
to Johannesburg: An Historical Overview of the Concern of
the Holy See for the Environment 1972-2002.
"Notes for Survival in the Wilderness"

Dr. Hooker has taught English Literature for more than 25
years and she became Regent’s Professor of Poetry at Saint
John’s University where she also served as Vice President
for Academic Affairs from 1983 to 1992. Her poems have appeared
in a number of publications including The Harvard Review,
The Massachusetts Review, Shenandoah, and the Vermont Literary
Review. Her book, “Notes for Survival in the Wilderness,”
was a finalist for the Center for Book Arts Award (N.Y.).
Another book, “The Winter Keeper,” was a finalist for the
Minnesota Book Award in poetry.
