What's New in Campus Ministry

PhilippinesThere are numerous opportunities for students to strengthen their faith, grow in community and learn more about who they are in Campus Ministry. This semester, we are offering two retreats as well as local, national and international service opportunities.

Our next international service opportunity students may participate in is a trip to the Philippines in January.

As a Catholic Benedictine institution, we value our diversity and it is because of our Catholic faith that we welcome everyone. We take this charism of hospitality to heart and therefore have organized a number of interfaith dialogue events.

The most exciting addition to campus this year is the University’s Interfaith Prayer Room. This space is open to faculty, staff and students of all faiths. It is a place of prayer, contemplation and meditation. The Benedictine community is made up of many faith traditions and it is our responsibility as a Catholic institution to welcome all to a place of peace.

Get Ready for Spring Registration
October is a busy month for the Advising Center. Even though students won’t register for spring classes until November, we will start scheduling meetings with students (individually and in groups) this month to help them prepare.

Please remind your student to double check MyBenU to make sure there are no holds on their student account.

A (Financial, Library, Transcript, Advisor or Health Services) hold will prevent students from registering for classes.

If your student has any of these holds on their account, please have them contact their academic advisor for assistance.

Online registration tutorials to help students self-register are also available at ben.edu/registration.
Important Financial Aid Information

  • Student Loans: Students who intend to borrow Direct Stafford Loans will need to complete entrance counseling and a Master Promissory Note at www.studentloans.gov. Students can log in using the same information they provided on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

  • Federal Work Study: If a student is eligible for Federal Work Study (FWS) it will be listed on the award letter. FWS is considered a grant. However, it is earned through student employment and not paid up front. FWS should not be factored into aid as it has yet to be earned. Students receive bi-weekly paychecks and can work up to 20 hours per week.

  • Disbursement of financial aid: Aid is disbursed after the add/drop deadline each semester, which is typically one week after the term starts. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid if you see aid that has not posted.

  • Changes in enrollment: Adding or dropping courses could result in changes to your financial aid or impact future eligibility for aid. If you are considering making enrollment changes, please contact the Office of Financial Aid. For additional details, you may also refer to the University’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy at ben.edu/sap.

  • Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA): Parents must fill out the Authorization for Release of Confidential Information to Parents form and have their student complete the consent portion of the form authorizing disclosure of their education records.

  • Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA): The 2017-18 FAFSA can be filed starting October 1, 2016 using 2015 tax information.
