Upcoming Dates and Events
Make sure your student’s health records are in good standing
Student Health Services has a few reminders for students and parents as we enter the final months of the spring semester.

  • Registration for the Fall 2017 Semester has begun.

  • Please check your Benedictine email and remind your student to check their accounts for health notices regarding health holds, which are applied when a student has not met the state’s immunization requirements. Health holds prevent students from registering for courses.

  • Student Health Services closes for the summer on Saturday, May 13. Please plan ahead and submit any missing health information to resolve any health holds prior to this date or update your tetanus booster vaccines, if needed.

  • You can print copies of immunization records at ben.edu by logging into MyBenU, clicking on “Campus Services,” then “Personal Information,” then “Immunizations.” Contact Student Health Services for assistance if you experience difficulties. Remember to turn off pop-up blockers.

  • Encourage your student to participate in health education programming focusing on managing stress at the end of April.
Next steps for students: Preparing for Commencement and interviews for careers/graduate school

As students are busy preparing for final exams and class projects, the Academic and Career Enrichment Center (ACE) is getting ready to help them with their next steps, whether those include internships, full-time jobs or graduate school.

Thursday, April 6, is the annual Spring Graduation and Career Fair. All students who are graduating in May will want to stop by the second floor of the Krasa Center from 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. to pick up their cap and gown, obtain Commencement information, get a picture taken by a GradImages photographer and participate in other graduation-related preparation.

Students should contact the Office of Student Accounts at (630) 829-6501 prior to the fair to make sure all financial questions are answered regarding their accounts. The career fair portion of the event is open to all students and alumni from 11:30 a.m.- 2:00 p.m., and will feature representatives from more than 40 employers who will discuss internship and full-time job opportunities in a variety of fields. Please remember to come prepared with revised résumés and wear professional attire. If you need to, please drop in during our walk-in hours to have your résumé critiqued by an ACE staff member before the event. You can check our walk-in schedule times here.

Networking events will be scheduled for all Benedictine students and alumni this spring. Be sure to check out ben.edu/ace for special presentations by guest employers through our Coffee House Networking Event Series. These are a great way to gain in-depth information on the opportunities available at a particular company, hiring practices and what hiring managers typically look for in a candidate. Networking is the key to professional success, so be sure to make time to attend these events.

We encourage students to make an appointment for a practice interview with a career advisor to strengthen their storytelling skills and best present their skills and strengths in advance of interviews for graduate school or potential employment.

Thank you and happy spring from all of us at ACE!

Parents interested in volunteering for Commencement, please contact Linda Owens at (630) 829-6123 or lowens@ben.edu.
