Benedictine University and St. Procopius Abbey invite the public to attend “Advent at the Abbey” from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 12.
Speakers will include Fr. Becket Franks, O.S.B., of St. Procopius Abbey and Christine M. Fletcher, Ph.D., assistant professor of Religious Studies at Benedictine University. The theme of the event, which coincides with the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, is “Delighting in Virtue.”
“In the middle of the Advent season we pause to commemorate the appearance of the Virgin Mary in Mexico in 1531,” Franks said. “As we ponder the joy of her message and image, St. Benedict reminds us that as we progress on the way of the Christian journey, we shall run the path of God’s commandments and our hearts will overflow with the inexpressible delight of love.
“This day gives us a chance to reflect on the joy of Advent as ‘delighting in virtue,’” he added.
The schedule includes arrival and coffee, a morning prayer, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, readings, Mass, lunch in the monastic refectory, a reflection, and a closing prayer and blessing.
For more information or to R.S.V.P., contact Franks at (630) 829-9253 or e-mail bfranks@procopius.org. Space is limited. There is no fee but a free offering will be taken.
