2008
Benedictine University Homecoming Festival and Reunion Weekend
Friday,
October 17, 2008 - Sunday, October 19, 2008
Benedictine University’s Homecoming Festival 2008 was a great success! Alumni and friends of the University were able to get reacquainted with old teammates, coaches, professors, friends and classmates at the many activities on campus. Friday night, the Coal Ben hosted an Open Mic Night and Poetry Slam while a bags tournament went on in the Alumni Tent.
Beautiful weather made Saturday a perfect day for tailgating and enjoying the Eagles take on Maranatha Baptist Crusaders. Each of the colleges, as well as the Enrollment Center and Athletics, set up tailgating tents and prepared a delicious cookout. The Eagles put a perfect cap on the festivities by crushing the Crusaders 44-0.
New to our Homecoming Festival this year was our “Ben There, Done That – A Walk Down Memory Lane” exhibit in the Coal Ben. Photographs, letter sweaters, artifacts, yearbooks and other items from the past were on display for visitors to check out. Visitors loved seeing all the memorabilia from their time at Benedictine, and it is a must-have event for next year’s festival!
Homecoming guests also enjoyed the sound of several bands at this year’s festival. Prior to the football game, Dave Norman’s (C08) band, “Hear You Me,” performed to rave reviews. After the big win for the Eagles, bands “Stellar Road” and “Final Say” kept the crowd pumped up with a live concert in the quad. Guests were able to enjoy the pig roast, catch up with old friends and dance the night away!
The festivities continued into Sunday with a special Alumni Mass at St. Procopius Abbey followed by a brunch in Krasa Center. Another group of alumni and friends joined Dr. William Carroll and Charles Gregory for brunch in Kindlon before departing to the Bank of America Theatre in Chicago to see “The Jersey Boys.”
If you missed Homecoming this year, we encourage you to attend next year’s festival. Watch the Homecoming website for details as they are set, and don’t miss a wonderful opportunity to come back home!
