Jean Chatzky, an award-winning journalist, best-selling author and motivational speaker who is seen by millions of television viewers on NBC’s “Today” show, will help kick off “Money Smart Week” in DuPage County when she appears at Benedictine University at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 20 in the Krasa Center. Chatzky’s presentation is titled “Financial Responsibility in Today’s Economy” and her visit is sponsored by VISA. In addition to her weekly appearances on “Today,” Chatzky is a contributing editor for More magazine, a columnist for The New York Daily News and a contributor to “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” She also hosts a daily show on the “Oprah & Friends” channel heard exclusively on XM Radio. Chatzky is the author of four books, including “Pay It Down: From Debt to Wealth on $10 A Day,” a New York Times and Business Week best-seller. Her latest book, “Make Money, Not -Excuses,” is a Wall Street Journal and New York Times best-seller. Chatzky also serves on the March of Dimes advisory council, lends her support and expertise to women’s services groups and is on the board of the Nora Magid Mentorship prize at the University of Pennsylvania, which helps journalism students get a head-start in the field. The daughter of a college professor father and teacher mother, Chatzky, who grew up in the Midwest, now lives with her family in Westchester, New York. “Money Smart Week” began in 2001 as a coordinated effort by the Money Smart Advisory Council, a group of more than 40 Chicago-area organizations working together to promote personal financial literacy. The council was convened by then-Chicago Federal Reserve chairman Michael Moskov. Today, “Money Smart Week” is six days of presentations by community groups, financial institutions, government agencies, educational organizations and financial experts designed to help consumers learn to better manage their money. The event has grown beyond the Chicago area with events in Indiana, Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin.
