Tim Marin (Chemistry/Biochemistry) published an article in the Journal of Physical Chemistry B (2013, 117, 7084-7094), as part of his collaboration with Argonne National Laboratory and Brookhaven National Laboratory. The article, "Ionic Liquids Based on Polynitrile Anions: Hydrophobicity, Low Proton Affinity, and High Radiolytic Resistance Combined," was co-written with Ilya A. Shkrob and James F. Wishart.
Jan Writer (Education) has been selected to give a peer-reviewed presentation and paper at the 2013 National TASH Conference on Severe Disabilities in December. Her interactive workshop, "Talk WITH Me! Communication Strategies that Empower Students with Significant Disabilities," will detail diverse strategies for enhancing the communication abilities of children and youth with low incidence disabilities (e.g., intellectual disabilities, autism, orthopedic impairments, multiple disabilities) who are educated within inclusive school settings.

Benedictine University will host the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) Student Leaders Program on the Lisle campus for the ninth consecutive year through August 3. The MEPI Student Leaders Program is funded by the U.S. Department of State through a grant awarded to six U.S. academic institutions. MEPI operates in 18 countries; Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, West Bank/Gaza and Yemen. Twenty outstanding students from North Africa and the Middle East have been selected to participate in the MEPI program. They will spend approximately four weeks in residence at Benedictine University, attending classes focusing on leadership, democracy and culture.

Benedictine University Men's Lacrosse will host a camp for boys in grades 4-12 on Sunday-Thursday, July 14-18, at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex. The camp will feature professional lacrosse player Kyle Harrison and other professional players and coaches. Deep Roots Lacrosse camp, presented by TAMA Lacrosse, is an instructional skills camp that is dedicated to maximizing the potential of each player's lacrosse abilities. Each player will have the opportunity to work with professional lacrosse players, college coaches and college lacrosse players. TAMA Lacrosse will be providing each player with a jersey for camp as well as other prizes and giveaways from TAMA Lacrosse and LXM Pro/STX/NIKE. For more information, go to www.deeprootslax.com.
The Benedictine University Library's summer hours will continue through Sunday, August 25. The library's summer hours are: 8:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m., Monday-Thursday (research assistance will be available on the third floor from 9:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.) and 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on Fridays (research assistance will be available on the third floor from 9:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m.). The library is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Exceptions include: Thursday, June 13 and Friday, June 14 (closed for staff development); and Thursday, July 4 (closed, Independence Day). Denim Days are back. Donate $5 per Friday to the College of Business Building or the General Scholarship Fund and wear jeans to work on Fridays through August 23. Applies to new donations only. Summer Fun Day Camp registration is under way. Boys and girls ages 5-13 are invited to spend a fun-filled summer. Activities include games, sports, computers, fishing, movies, reading and arts and crafts. The camp runs Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. The cost for Benedictine employees is $135 per week (five days per week), $108 for four days per week and $81 for three days per week. Remaining sessions are July 8-12, July 15-19, July 22-26, July 29-August 2, and August 5-9. The Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex is the home of the Chicago Red Stars professional women's soccer team. The Chicago Red Stars is an American professional soccer club that was a founding member of Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) league. The Red Stars participated in WPS in 2009-2010, playing their home games at Toyota Park. After leaving the WPS in December 2010 due to financial issues, the team reorganized and joined the Women's Premier Soccer League for the 2011 season. In 2012, the team participated in the inaugural WPSL Elite League and currently plays in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). Publicity announcements of general interest to faculty, staff and/or the student body of the University by academic units, University departments and/or student organizations are the only type of material(s) allowed to be posted on University property. Outside agencies must advertise via the Candor. Community announcements can be posted on the community board located in the lower level stairwell of Krasa Student Center. Career Development will distribute job opportunity announcements. All announcements must meet the educational goals and promote the mission of the University.
