Dear alumni and friends of Benedictine University,
I would like to share with you some exciting news regarding Benedictine Athletics and the entire campus community. The University is now exploring a variety of funding options for the renovation of the Dan and Ada Rice Center. We have a comprehensive plan to rejuvenate the building to make it a valuable asset to Benedictine Athletics and our Benedictine family. The three planned phases of the renovations include:
- Phase 1: Renovating the arena to include a new practice floor and competition wood floor, new bleacher systems, new island baskets and scoreboards.
- Phase 2: Relocation and construction of a new all-inclusive fitness center featuring a 7,500-square foot lower level dedicated to cardio and circuit training and a 5,200-square foot strength training mezzanine.
- Phase 3: Constructing a new and modernized entrance and an "Eagle Legends Center" which will include a room dedicated to the Hall of Fame.
The University is committed to beginning this project by earmarking financial resources, and is seeking additional funding from corporate, government and other private entities. The time frame and degree of completion for this project depends on the financial support from all of our constituents including alumni, friends and supporters of Benedictine University.
This is an exciting time for Benedictine Athletics, and I encourage everyone to continue to follow the Eagles by attending one of our events, checking us out online or joining as a charter member of our Eagle Club (the Eagle Club E-Newsletter will be coming to you soon!). To learn more about this project and other Eagle news, please contact John Morris, Assistant Athletic Director, at
(630) 829-1812 or at jmorris@ben.edu.
Enjoy your summer, and I look forward to seeing you on campus this fall cheering on our teams.
Go Eagles!

Celebrating Fr. Michael Komechak’s Golden Jubilee
The 50th anniversary of the ordination of Fr. Michael Komechak, O.S.B. was celebrated May 30, 2009. Hundreds of faculty, staff, alumni, community members and friends gathered to honor Fr. Michael. There was a celebratory Mass at the Abbey featuring the abbey schola and trumpeter William Aukstik followed by a dinner in the Krasa Center.
Fr. Michael, who serves the University as curator of the Benedictine art collection, has been a teacher at St. Procopius College and assisted at several parishes in DuPage County including Visitation in Elmhurst, St. Joan of Arc in Lisle, and St. Elizabeth Seton, St. Margaret Mary and Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Naperville. He has been a fixture on the DuPage County art scene and has served as judge at numerous art shows including the Riverwalk Fine Art Fair held in downtown Naperville.
Benedictine University is extremely grateful for Fr. Michael’s service to the University and the community during the past 50 years. |
