What is the application deadline?
Benedictine has a rolling admission, but we prefer to receive applications by December 15.

Do I have to declare a major in my freshman year?
No. Every student is assigned an academic advisor who will mentor them through the major declaring, scheduling and registration process.

What is Benedictine’s job placement rate?
We have a 96 percent placement rate for undergraduate students and a 93 percent placement rate for graduate students.

Does Benedictine have any alumni who I might recognize?
Yes. Notable Benedictine alumni include former Illinois Attorney General Jim Ryan, C68; Bill Callahan, C78, head football coach at the University of Nebraska; and David Reynolds, C82, writer of Walt Disney’s animated feature “The Emperor’s New Groove.”

At what level does Benedictine compete athletically?
The Eagles compete in NCAA Division III (therefore, we are unable to offer athletic scholarships).

Does Benedictine offer any special assistance for students who require academic assistance outside of the classroom?
Yes. We offer assistance through the Study Zone, Academic Resource Center, Writing Workshop, Math in the Afternoon and tutoring.

Does Benedictine offer housing on campus?
Yes. We have one male and one female residence hall, one co-educational residence hall and Founders’ Woods apartments.

Do I have to be Catholic to attend Benedictine?
No. Benedictine was recently ranked sixth by U.S. News & World Report ® in the Midwest for Campus Diversity.

Are freshmen required to live on campus?
No.

Are freshmen allowed to have cars on campus?
Yes.

Where is Lisle?
Lisle is four miles from downtown Naperville and 25 miles west of Chicago.

Does Benedictine University have internship programs?
Yes. We have relationships with employers throughout the Chicago area. We work closely with the Illinois Small College Placement Association to help identify internships for our students. Your faculty advisor and dean can help you with contacts as well.

When I do find out if I qualify for any scholarships?
You will be notified of any scholarships you may be receiving upon acceptance into the University.

Is there a meal plan for commuter students?
Yes, there are special meal plans for our students who either commute or live in Founders’ Woods apartments.

What are Benedictine University’s most popular majors?
Last year, the five most popular majors were Biology, Psychology, Health Science, Management and Elementary Education.

What documents are required to complete the application?
In addition to the application form, we require an original high school transcript, documented ACT or SAT score, and one letter of recommendation from a high school guidance counselor. You may be required to submit a personal statement if you do not meet the minimum admission requirements, which are a cumulative GPA of 2.5/4.0, a 21 ACT/990 SAT, and being a graduate in the top 50% of your class.

How much is the application fee?
Our application fee is $40. However, we waive the fee if a student visits campus before they apply.

Are Advanced Placement test scores accepted?
Yes, and you may contact the Enrollment Center for more information regarding specific scores required and course equivalency for each exam. Please see the list of courses at www.ben.edu/admissions/freshmen/ap.asp.

Do you accept credit for college courses taken in high school?
In many cases we do. Please contact the Enrollment Center for specific questions regarding classes taken.

Do you use teaching assistants?
No. At Benedictine University, all classes are taught by professors, who are also available to assist students during non-classroom hours.
