What Our Students Say

Benedictine University Intercollegiate Athletics Philosophy

With a strong desire to enhance recruitment and retention, the athletic coaches and staff at Benedictine University have developed a balanced, competitive intercollegiate program where "Winners Graduate."

Our academic and athletic programs foster a sense of pride and commitment in our students. In the Benedictine tradition we encourage the ideal of a life lived in balance through expanded intramural, extracurricular, and academic support activities.

Intercollegiate Athletics Conference Affiliations:

The Benedictine University Athletic program is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and competes in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) in all sports (except swimming, which competes as an independent sport).

The Benedictine University athletics teams that participate in the NAC are:

  • Men's and Women's Basketball
  • Football
  • Men's and Women's Cross-Country
  • Men's and Women's Track & Field (indoor and outdoor)
  • Men's and Women's Soccer
  • Women's Tennis
  • Women's Volleyball
  • Softball
  • Baseball
  • Men's and Women's Golf

Beginning competition in the fall of 2006, the Northern Athletics Conference consists of 13 colleges and universities from the shared-border states of Illinois and Wisconsin.

Many of these schools have shared traditional rivalries dating back to the NAC’s predecessor conferences, the Lake Michigan Conference and the Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference (of which Benedictine was a charter member previously). NAC member schools include: Alverno College, Aurora University, Benedictine University, Concordia University Chicago, Concordia University-Wisconsin, Dominican University, Edgewood College, Lakeland College, Maranatha Baptist Bible College, Marian College, Milwaukee School of Engineering, Rockford College and Wisconsin Lutheran College.

The Northern Athletics Conference sponsors 18 sports. Men’s teams include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field. Women’s squads are fielded in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field and volleyball.
